The Chapter on a Safe Place

AN 9.52 A Safe Place Khemasutta

“Reverend, they speak of ‘a safe place’. In what way did the Buddha speak of a safe place?”

"First, take a mendicant who, quite secluded from sensual pleasures … enters and remains in the first absorption. To this extent the Buddha spoke of a safe place in a qualified sense. …

Furthermore, take a mendicant who, going totally beyond the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception, enters and remains in the cessation of perception and feeling. And, having seen with wisdom, their defilements come to an end. To this extent the Buddha spoke of a safe place in a definitive sense."

(IX) (60) Ðoạn Diệt

− “Ðoạn diệt, đoạn diệt”, này Hiền giả, được nói đến như vậy.

AN 9.61 Progressive Cessation Anupubbanirodhasutta

“Reverend, they speak of ‘progressive cessation’. What is the progressive cessation that the Buddha spoke of?”

"First, take a mendicant who, quite secluded from sensual pleasures … enters and remains in the first absorption. To this extent the Buddha spoke of progressive cessation in a qualified sense. …

Furthermore, take a mendicant who, going totally beyond the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception, enters and remains in the cessation of perception and feeling. (X) (61) Thứ Ðệ Ðoạn Diệt

1. - “Thứ đệ đoạn diệt, thứ đệ đoạn diệt”, này Hiền giả, được nói đến như vậy. Cho đến như thế nào, này Hiền giả, thứ đệ đoạn diệt được Thế Tôn nói đến?

2. - Ở đây, này Hiền giả, Tỷ-kheo ly dục… chứng đạt và an trú Thiền thứ nhất, … cho đến như vậy, này Hiền giả, thứ đệ đoạn diệt được Thế Tôn nói đến với pháp môn.

3. Lại nữa, này Hiền giả, Tỷ-kheo vượt qua Phi tưởng phi phi tưởng xứ một cách hoàn toàn, chứng đạt và an trú Diệt thọ tưởng định; sau khi thấy với trí tuệ, các lậu hoặc được đoạn tận. Cho đến như vậy, này Hiền giả là thứ đệ đoạn diệt được Thế Tôn nói đến với phi pháp môn.

AN 9.62 Requirements for Perfection Abhabbasutta

"Mendicants, without giving up nine things you can’t realize perfection. What nine? Greed, hate, delusion, anger, acrimony, disdain, contempt, jealousy, and stinginess. Without giving up these nine things you can’t realize perfection.

After giving up nine things you can realize perfection. What nine? Greed, hate, delusion, anger, acrimony, disdain, contempt, jealousy, and stinginess. After giving up these nine things you can realize the fruit of perfection."

(XI) (62) Có Khả Năng

1. - Này các Tỷ-kheo, có chín pháp không đoạn trừ thì không có thể chứng ngộ quả A-la-hán. Thế nào là chín?

2. Tham sân, si, phẫn nộ, hiềm hận, giả dối, não hại, tật đố, xan tham.

Chín pháp này, này các Tỷ-kheo, không đoạn trừ thì không có thể chứng ngộ quả A-la-hán.

3. Chín pháp này, này các Tỷ-kheo, được đoạn trừ thì có thể chứng ngộ quả A-la-hán. Thế nào là chín?

4. Tham, sân, si, phẫn nộ, hiềm hận, giả dối, não hại, tật đố, xan tham.
